DVDRW problem

Hey I recently got a DVDRW (NEC 3550A) and installed it today. Thing is though that it's detected perfectly by windows and all is well in the Device Manager, but it wont actually create any dvds for me. I've tried using Nero and Alcohol 120% but in Alcohol it gets this far: http://img54.imageshack.us/img54/2213/alco1203zb.jpg and just stays there. Nero goes as far as "Lead-in" but just stops then. There's no action at all from the DVDRW drive, no spinning or anything really.

Anyone have any ideas? Im running Windows XP, AMD64 3200+, 1gb of ram.

Can you read media in the drive? (CD, pre-recorded DVD,etc.)
    What discs aer you using?

    Ask the Blonde Baroness?:p

so its when alcohol asks you to insert the blank disk. i had that problem aswell before on an older computer.
i had bought a new dvdrw drive, what i thought was at the time, it was the drive.
but then as i recall someone here helped me...
    cant remember...
do a search might show up :(

Hey I think I figured out what the story is. The cap thing at the back was setting it to primary instead of secondary, should be okay now. It accepts normal media and I just burned something to a dvd. Although I had to unplug my master DVD drive so I hope it works properly when I plug them all back in. Cheers for the help.

edit: Yep it's working fine now. Thanks guys

Just keep your disk drives on the same ide cable and set the Dvd RW to master and other slave.

ALso some drives have problems burning with certain disks, dvd-r/w work fine for most. Alcohol can sometimes show up as disk inserted being empty or not compatible.
