    Hi Folks,
I would like some advice, i'm hoping to replace our sky plus with a non subscription alternative..

i've seen the topfield.. referred to on avforums but im not sure if it will work in ireland.. i'm based in dublin.. i wouldnt mind spending a few quid for a device with hard disk/sky plust type pause/record etc.. that i could just connect to existing sat feeds from sky dish. Can anyone offer any advice on the topfield or where i can source one in dublin and what model to look for?

    Cheers,
    Mick

If its a satellite PVR, it'll work as well here as the UK. But note:

    1. FTA channels only
    2. Now & Next EPG only on any channel from 28E. That means no 7 day EPG, no series link, etc.

Topfield TF 5000 PVR works perfect in this country, with Dragon/T-Rex-cam it should work with Skysub. Here is a good shop:

With my PremiumX PVR and Dragon I can watch (and record) all the FTA channels plus C4, FIVE and Sky three through a Solus/FTV card.
And yes, EPG only now and next on Astra2

Though there is no G'tee that a Dragon cam will work tomorrow with a Sky card, nor that even if it does work that it will update.

Dreamboxes, PCs and Dragon cams for legitimate Sky cards & pay channels is a hobbyist solution, not a normal consumer option. There is just too much to go wrong and no "out of the box" Plug in and go.

PM Smeagol for details rather than confuse people on the boards.
