    Hi,

Heading off for two weeks to Maspalomas. Anybody been there? Would it be worth hiring a car? Any decent activity parks for kids (besides the pool and beach)?

    Any information gratefully received.

Was in Maspalomas a few years ago. Its just on the edge of Playa Des Ingles and when I mean edge, I mean edge. A taxi to the centre of there takes about 3-4 mins depending on traffic. However its a nice quiet area, more residental and smaller developments of holiday apts, none more than 2 storey's in height, very little of the drunken antics and a good nights sleep usually guaranteed!!

There is a lovely beach, beware one section is a nudist beach with loadsa old people wandering around with it all hanging out.. :D

There is a small shopping centre over near the hotel at beach and one or 2 small shops/supermarkets dotted around the place which are handy for newspapers/bread/milk etc.

The main water park is on the other side of the main Playa Des Ingles road, about 1/2 mile from Maspalomas.

Most other stuff is in or around Playa Des Ingles and a taxi only costs about €3 or €4 each way, so not expensive at all.

I hired a car for 2 days when there and travelled all around the island. Its a lovely island and the north and northwest are completely different from the south where Maspalomas is located. Much greener and lovely villages etc, very little touristy spots there, just some lovely views.

Some good shopping in Las Palmas, the capital of the island and there is a cool viewing point right in the centre of the island, its an extinct volcano where you can see the see 360 degrees from the viewing and all parts of the island. Some nut even had his farm inside the volcano crater and you can see right down into it and the far inside!! :D

Purto Rico is worth a look, down by the marina although the road from Maspalomas from there to Purto Rico is not for those with an nervous disposition, sheer cliffs on both sides, one straight up and one straight down so not for the nervous drivers :)

Thank you Toxic for the detailed reply. Sounds lovely over there. Another 8 weeks. Probably would be a good idea to get the car while i'm there. Had one when i was in Menorca & Majorca. Was a God-send, not only to get to see the scenery but for lugging things around! Well this time it's for scenery only. Like you did - I'll only get it for a couple of days. Plan on relaxing on this holiday not haring round like someone possessed!

    Thanks again.
