    New XPS 700

    article_img.jpg

Major bit thats different is the use of STD parts, u can upgrade the MOBO, PSU, HSF etc urself so upgradeablity is a hell of allot easier...

Also looks like dell are gonna be selling the case alone as its been getting allot of interest.. Looks well, allot better than their usual offering...

From what we've seen, this looks like it could end up being the best pre-built system in the world - and we seriously mean that.
    ..bit-tech

    I wonder...

STARTING at €1,800 without a monitor.....

Surely for that price Alienware would still be preferable?

Well if nothing else the dell looks better.. Those alienware case's are way way overdue an update..

While it's a good thing Dell are getting there act together finally when it comes to high end/gaming PC's, I will remain cautiously optimistic. Bit Tech have been caught out one one two things beforehand so I don't entirely trust their opinions.

[H]ardOCP had a recent sit down with Dell which you can read here and they were pleased with some of the changes Dell are bringing after they raked them (deservedly so) over the coals on their previous generation XPS.

Most notable they are no longer pre-installing the bloatware that came with the PC by default and the appear to be keeping their word if you go customize the XPS 700 it doesn't include any of the bundle software.

I'd still wait till you see the new Intel Core 2 Duo chips before throwing down cash for one of those XPS 700's though as your still getting a dual core P4.

The case is an improvement and it's nice to know that it is upgradeable though good luck finding worthwhile BTX motherboards for it.

Graphics options are a little skimpy as well only two NV choices (one SLI) not even the top end and the top of the line ATI part to give a total of 3 options, at least 4 maybe 5 tops would be better.

Still positive baby steps for Dell you gotta learn to crawl before you can walk...

    my son didnt :-P

as for topic, i like the case. and dell are moving slowly into the right place with the option of easy upgrading. but then as you said, finding suitable worthwhile mobo's is something someone needs to think over before buying 1.

the price i suppose is a heafty fee but then again, dell dont really charge much for ****e really... so paying 1800 you know your getting somethine pretty good for the dosh.

id prefer to wait for the new line of duo's coming soon.

    also, 1 thing i noticed,
    Big Storage. Big Power.
    up to 2 terabytes.
    now, that is impressive.

    but then again...
the XPS 700 can be kicked into overdrive with up to 2GB of memory.

doesnt seem quite substancial compared to what you can do already.

the 750w power supply is something sweet compared to whats available.
7.1 sound is also something worthwhile.

as i said before, you know your getting your money worth if you do decide to buy this.

I think the case is plastic though :( shame that

The externals of the case look every bit as good in the flesh as they do in photos. The casing is made out of thick 2.5mm aluminium, which is tough - and looks spectacular. Dell has LED lights on the front of the machine which give the front, slotted panel a gorgeous glow. But not only that, there are also lights above the ATX backplate ports on the back, so that you can see what you're doing when you're fiddling around under the desk.

    Its a propper case ;)

prefered the old case to be honest.

Plus like 8T8 said buying one now is a waste of money, wait for C2D
