    with 500 to spend can i get advice on the best laptop for my money .
    friends changing from pc to note book. for wireless net etc..

    Buying new you probably won't get anything. Even the one from Dell that was €399 was net and came in at just over €500 includin bag, delivery and vat. Try the Dell Outlet store or the for sale forum here. I think a second hand one is your best bet.
