are there trains(eg. night trains?) that are not included in the cost of an inter rail ticket. ie. are there some trains that you have to pay extra to get???? Also ...do you need to book trains in advance??? cheers!

The inter rail ticket covers the cost of a basic seat. If for example you are going to be travelling overnight ( the cheapest form of travelling) by train, the interrail ticket will cover the cost of your seat. But if you want to book a bed you will have to pay extra: something like €15/20, well worth it.

Ye for booking in advance, I found just getting down to the train station early was normally good enough. But if ye are travelling from an obscure enough train station, it might be better advised to pre book, from when ye first arrive in the train station. Also pay in mind forest fires, when I was travelling around last year, they caused so much interruption, especially if ye are trying to make a connecting train.

You also need to pay extra on high-speed trains, for example the TGV in France. It's normally only a few euro extra though and normal trains seem to also serve everywhere the TGV goes!

Got hit for a few extra bob for some train in the Czech Republic by an over-zealous inspector.

No idea why - lost in translation.

Had to fork out a few notes of the local currency or serve time in jail (at least that's the feeling I got from the inspector).

Think it was only a few quid when we worked it out....
