    Morning folks,

Mate of mine bought a Creative Zen in Canada last year and has a two year guarantee. Problem is that the thing is b0rked. Sound is gone completely and the thing had been skipping during tracks. He contacted Creative in Canada and they've told him that he needs to consult an engineer to get an itemised costing of the repairs before they'll do anything further. Are they allowed to do this? Does he have the same consumer rights considering it was bought abroad? I would have thought so but wanted to check with anyone else would has knowledge of this type of thing. If this isn't the most appropriate forum then can a mod move it? Thanks a million.

It depends on the circumstances of the warranty - it might only be valid in Canada. I know there's consumer rights, but they apply more to new products breaking/being DOA/not being as described/whatever.

Creative are doing a 2 year warranty for the product out of their own kindness, and it's very common for warranties only applying to country or region (e.g. EU) the product was bought in. You can often get international warranties, but at an extra cost.

I would go true the Irish channels, ignore the fact you got it in Canada.

I have always found that the Irish support to be good, all they will want is the serial no.

I have got Creative players from Komplett and Pixmaina (they come from all over as i got the incorrect plugs) and had no problem dealing with the irish support.

    Try 01 4380055

I had a creative mp3 player that I bought in the US that broke on me. I rang Creative Ireland, gave them the serial and faxed them proof of purchase from the store in the US and I had a new player out within a few days. Generally, warranties for large companies are usually international. Give the Irish number a ring and they will sort it out for ya

Afaik creative warrantys are limited to where they are purchased... When i was in the states a while ago i was choosing between the zen micro n ipod mini.. Apples warranty is worldwide, creatives only covered the us....

But as lynchie says, he got his sorted no probs....

  • i bought mine in America, and when it broke, i had no cover..

i think it simply depends on the warantee.

have a good look at it
