Disposing of old oil, boiler and tank

Can anyone give me some guidance as to the best way to get rid of an old heating system ? We're changing from oil to gas, so I have an old boiler, a plastic 1000l oil tank and some kerosene (not sure how much) to get rid of. Are there specialist companies that you can pay to take this stuff away ? I was thinking I could give my remaining kero to my neighbour, but not sure how to get it out of my tank and into his - seems a shame to waste good oil, what with the current high prices and all.

Grrr! I just paid €320 last nite for a second hand tank, 1/4 tank of kerosene with tank and a burner. You've just made my day!!

The best place to start is to contact your local authority as they may be able to take it away for you (for a price) & dispose of it correctly.

Sorry about that sandyg - would have been a good match if you could have taken my old stuff :(

There are companies out there that will take away waste oil (not sure about the tank and boiler). They are not cheap. Atlas Waste Oil comes to mind but a search in the yellow pages should help you out.

As Hill Billy says, contact the environmentl dept in your local council, they should be able to advise you. You might be able to shift the whole lot if you put it in Buy & Sell. "Free to take away" might attract some interest.

If you want to give it to your neighbour all you need to do is get some oil drums and fill them from your tank tap. Thats how we transported it last nite as the tank was too heavy to carry with the oil in it. The other was is to ring oil company and they can transfer the oil for you for a small charge. (my friend did this when they moved)

I know here in kerry that you can dispose of waste "oil" motor oil etc so I also presume Kerosene too. Anyway it seems a waste of good heating oil that could be given to a friend/neighbour etc. There are several waste transfer stations in my county and they usually have a tank similar to the heating one that you just fill your waste liquids into. I presume it is refined into to some sort of cheap heating oil or else dumped over the ocean or africa by chemtrails.

As for the tank you could still use it. If you drive a diesel car you can save upto 10cents per litre buy buying it in bulk and filling up yourself at home. The Kerosene tank would be fine only powerwash it out with mild detergents and get the diesel hose and nozzel attached. It is a handy solution if you can have it secured otherwise every tom, dick and harry will be nicking 5 gallon drums of it when you are away. As for the conversion to Gas ? WTF?? Gas is insane, it is way more expensive and you don't own the tank you rent it. Unless it's piped gas which is even more costly. As for it being clean, who cares about the environment? The USA won't ratify Kyoto while we are screwed in fuel taxes and soon to be Carbon taxes. The diesel tank is also handy if you want to screw the Government back as Agricultural Diesel is much cheaper than Road diesel. Burn it in your motor and save a small fortune and Bertie & Harney the two fingers. :D Truckers find the fine cheaper if caught than buying ordinary diesel.
