I see that theyre planning on using band 3 for TV broadcasts for portables

    I dont get it.

First off they replace analouge with DTT in order to (among other things) "save spectrum space"

Then they realise the because DTT system was badly thought out/designed it wont work on portables.

So now they want to DUPLICATE many DTT services on Band 3 using a new "portable friendly" standard (DVB-H)

Isint this a waste of both spectrum and money ? How many broadcasters are going to bother with MHEG anyway ? I hear talk in the media about charging people a fiver a month to "watch TV on their mobile phones" quite frankly I reckon the demand for such a thing will be tiny even if its free !

Hmm, don't think I'll be desperate enough to pay a subscription to watch TV on the move!

Portable DVD players and Video iPods don't really interest me, I certainly wouldn't be bothered when the content I'm watching isn't certain to be something I want to see.

they seem blissfully unaware of DVB-H as well, most odd.

Nevertheles there will be consultations ongoing for the next while and you may wish to tell them what you think of their schemes and their overall approach.

DVB-h though on a 7" portabale screen in kitchen, Study, workshop etc like you plonk down a portable radio when doing something in the house isn't stupid.

In trials of DVBh they discovered that people used the handset at home more than on the move. I could have told them that!

But with modern DVB-T reception techniques (shown by Thomson), you can just use DVB-T for that and not bother wasting frequencies on DVB-H.
