Set the TV screen as the primary or number one screen in the display settings, the black screen is something to do with a overlay mask.

You need to create a new profile, which sets in when the DVI/VGA cable is plugged into the laptop. In this new profile, the TV is the primary (or 'no1) and the laptop is secondary.

ur laptop have ATI drivers installed? if so i can screenshot how i did it?

If not ati, you'll have to google it..

Not create a new user, just a new profile in your display settings!

Right click on Desktop and go to Display /Advanced and Monitor , you have to plug in tv and reboot pc so laptop knows its there at startup.

Not knowing what card is in your laptop cant really adivse you on what to do next, but the others have covered it above.

This is how i did it on my laptop (ATI based) - http://www.custompc.ie/ss.jpg

When the LCD is plugged in, i pressed the power button (in blue) on top of the 'Panel' part, and this made the LCD the primary!
