When burning a large mpeg onto a CD - do i need to make it bootable for my DVD player to play it?

At work - and my DVD player is at home - so cant test till tonight.

Erm, what exactly is it going to boot on? The DVD player?

No, you don't have to make it bootable. That is usually for disks to install an operating system.

it depends on your dvd player.

most "standard" dvd players will only play dvd format discs. A lot will also play svcd. some will play vcd, some will play video files in iso format.

if you are just burning an mpeg files onto a CD. then unless your dvd player specifically supports that then you are screwed.

Not really. Making the disc bootable wouldn't make a monkey's moolah of a difference regardless of whether the player will play mpeg-[x] files or not.

Hence, like tom said, the answer's a clear "no" in any case.

If you use a program like Nero or some software that comes with digital camera these will allow you burn a picture disk that will play on your DVD.

    What software are you using?

i think he means hoe to get the mpeg to play on the dvd player. you need to convert it to a format readable by the player. ie vcd/svcd or if you have a dvd disc, a dvd

perhaps i was unclear. Of course making it bootable has nothing to do with whether his dvd player will play it or not.

Whether it will play at all, depends on his dvd player.

So, what we are all trying to say is no - you don't need to make it bootable.

What we are also trying to say is that your DVD player may not play MPEG1 files (normal DVDs are MPEG2). Look for VCD compatability in the instruction manual of your DVD player.

Also, you can't just simply burn an mpeg file and expect it to play on a DVD player, it has to be put in the correct layout (i.e. VCD/SVCD/DVD).
