    hiya,

i have a number of professional color wedding photos which i would like to scan -
    8 - 5x7
    5 - 8x10
once scanned i was planning on using photobox.co.uk to print a few more copies.

so, i rang up pixels to see what they could do for me.

they said they would change me per print (they wouldnt just provided the scanned images). for this service they quoted me 5EURO per print at 8x10 and 3EURO per print at 5x7 and a minimum order of 10EURO.

he said they would use an epson flatbed(didnt know the model) and claimed this would operate at 600dpi but when pressed didnt sound so sure.

so, is 50EURO per set of copies the cheapest i can do? seems ... er ... a little steep to me.

It all depends on the quality! I don's see why they can't just scan and put the files on a CD.

he said they will put the scanned images on cd but they will still charge me 5EURO per 8x10 and 3EURO per 7x5 for this service.

As I mentioned, it depends on the quality. You would need to see that before shelling out €49. Get him to scan and print one so that you can judge the quality.

I'm inclined to think that your professional photographer that gave you the original prints wouldn't be too happy about you scanning, duplicating and generally infringing on the copyright of the images mind you... and I would have expected any high street lab to be fairly reserved about providing the service too. At those prices you'd be best getting extra copies from the photographer and there would be no question of quality...

We did not select the photography package, it was thrown in with the wedding deal and they charge $28 per 8x10.

At this rate it would be cheaper for me to buy a scanner and scan them myself.

I did this a few months back for my brother -in-law. I borrowed a scanner from work and scanned about 60 pix - 8x8, 8x10, 7x5 & 6x4. I got them printed on www.photobox.ie and it cost me less than 50 quid.
The photographer wanted 50 per 8x10 and they fel that that was too expensive.
There was the issue of copyright, but after shelling out almost 2.5 k on the photog in the first place, they fel that the pix should be included in that price

any ideas a cheapish(<200EURO) scanner that provides reasonable quality results when scanning colour photos?
