ok i know theres a difference but i want to know which one is it that the insurance company actually want.

They seem to want a garage report but ask for an engineers one and they're completely different so has anyone been through this with their cars.

Depends on the Insurance Co. I'm insured with O'riordans in Cork thru the Irish Vintage Society and they accepted a form filled out by my mechanic, he has Fas qualifications, if the car had been under 30 they would have taken its NCT report.

its 42 so it doent have an NCT cert. I just want to know if I just need to have a garage sign off and say its ok or do i need to get someone to do a complete check on it.
its for fully comp insurance with axa if that helps
