Pond liner

A bit of a strange one lads but the mate who drives a taxi is having a tough time finding a factory made moulded carpet with a vinyl covering on it. The reason he wants it is with all the people getting in and out, it does not take long for the carpet starts to smell even though he has rubber mats down. So he is hoping to get a solution for his floor where it can just be wiped. So I was thinking if he has no luck would pond liner work? ie would it be flexable enough to take on the contours of the the carpet already there. Am I correct in saying that pond liner is a very thing smooth rubber sheet.

    Any suggestion welcome

There's a few different types of pond liner, which vary in thickness and durability. You'd need the heaviest you can find to stand up to foot traffic and even then I'm not sure how long it would last.

If you're in Dublin, Fountains and Decor had a good range. Just past Newlands Cross on the Naas Road as you head out of Dublin.

Thanks for that OC,the ware should'nt be to bad as the rubber mats on top will take most of it but its more for the side bits that are'nt covered

    Hi Cubix,

We have rolls of EPDM 2 metres wide that might do the job, they are heavy guage, they look like pond liners but are industrial strength for roofs.

The surface is not smooth, I'm not sure if the surface for pond liners are smooth either.

Might be an option Pete, but I was thinking something smooth for the cleaning end of it. I might be wrong but if it has a raised imprint it would probally collect dirt and be hard to clean. How plyable is it Pete and whats it made of

    Thanks Cubix

Do we have liquid rubber here Pete. Another words you pour it on and it takes the shape of what you pour it onto and hardens

    Hi,

I believe EPDM is the same or very similar to the material used for lining ponds. it's a roofing material so plyable where a roof is concerned I wouldn't be too sure about working it into tight areas.

There was a garden entre just passed Newlands Cross that sold the pond liner it could be worth a try, at least you get to see if it's smooth.

There are a lot of liquid rubber products on the market they are supposed to cure every leak, I've never seen one that works.

There is a product used in the car repair business for floors and under the wings etc I think it's called Schutz or similar sounding name, I'm not sure if it will work as finished floor, I had it sprayed on the floor of a vintage van to cut down the road noise.

Thanks Pete, just incase I go down the Epdm route what should I expect to pay for say a 2mtr lenght of a 2mtr wide roll. Also what thickness does it come in as I am thinking of cutting it to size and just sitting it on top of the original carpet. That way when it gets dirty I can just lift it out and wash it with a hose
