Activation of Windows XP Pro

    I just brought a copy of win xp pro, I have installed and now want to activate it, but everytime I go to it says it cant connection, Im am connected to the internet via broadband so way wont windows detect that?

    ARe you sure you weren't getting a message saying the activation centre is down for maintenance? I was trying to activate Office 2007 Beta around midnight and have only just been able to activate it.

    Try again tomorrow. If it still fails, activate by phone.

    Yep, easy to do so by phone, all automated last time I done it anyway.

    Well all it said was checking connection, then a screen just said something like: Cannot connect to the Microsoft activation server, please check that you are connected to the internet, check your settings in network settings.

    Just ring them up on the free phone number. I had to activate XP a number of times (changing motherboards, hard drives etc) and it only worked online the first time.

    or just turn it off.
