SATA drive freezing the machine on the raid controler.

Hi wondering if any one could help me with this problem. I got a new segate 300 gig drive a few weeks ago and installed it fine. I already have 2 other SATA drives on channels 1 and 2 so my new drive is on 3. Now that I have a drive in channell 3 when my PC is booting up it shows that drive in the raid bios as installed and gives me the option to ctrl -s to change the raid settings. Ive gone in and can see nothing usefull there.

So my problem is the drive shows up fine in windows and I can watch AVI`s or play mp3`s off it find but when doing big file transfers to the drive it freezes the whole PC for about 30 seconds then all comes back. It happens no matter how I transefer files to the drive either from another drive , a USB drive or even uploading to the machine`s ftp server from another machine. I was trying to unrar files to that drive and the unrar process also cause this hang.

Any one got any ideas? I dont think it is a problem with the drive itself but I havent ruled this out either. I was thinking of moving the drive on to channell 2 and the channel 2 drive on to the channel 3 and see does the problem follow the drive or stay with channel 3.

    Any help apricaated.

One question, is this drive a maxtor hard-drive with a n-force 4 motherboard?

It could be the motherboards drivers. If its Nforce 4 try updating to the latest as it solved a Maxtor Sata problem i had.

ALso if not using IDE do not install the IDE drivers as this will cause a 10 min lag before boot, major issue with drivers.

More info needed, motherboard, chipset, is it running from a RAID controller etc ?

OK the mother board is abit and the hard drive is Segate. Im pretty sure the chip set is Nvivia but im not at my PC right now so I cant be 100% sure of that.

And yeah its running from the Raid controler but my other 2 sata drives are not.

Just to confirm my board is an Abit N7 running an Nvidia chip set. It seems to be running off the on board raid. Ive looked again at the raid menu and there seems to be little options there for me.
