    Hi,

I am a novice to DYI side of digital satellite.

Is it difficult to upgrade the LNB on a Sky dish to a quad? Do I need any special equipement or could it all be done by hand, disconnecting the exisitng cable and reconnecting to the new quad etc?. The Sky dish is our only reception source and I do not want to upset the wife and kids becuase I mess things up!

I am considering going down this road as a friend of mine has offered me one of the Lidl camping receivers. My plan would be to upgrade the LNB and then set up the Lidl receiver in another room.

    Thanks for any info.

It's quite straight forward really. just take off the old one, and slot on the new one. Ensure it's designed for a sky dish when buying it.
The only possible problem would be the new lnb is a little heavier, and the dish may lose some signal strength with the extra weight on the arm.

When re-doing the connections, make sure you seal them well with tape/grease as once water gets in, it won't last too long.

make sure it is sky quad, look on ebay, good luck. before u start check the signal strength in the sky box and then afterwards, this will tell u if dish moved, as it is weight dish may move down a tad so just need to raise it a tad.

You don't tape connections on multi output LNBs. They have a cover that slides down. I saw a taped one and it was a mess. Took tape off, cleaned connectors and clicked down the cover.

Thaks to you all for the info.

I think I will go to one of the Sat retailers recommended on the forum to make sure it is a Sky supported lnb. I will also ask them for cabling and connectors, again something I could mess up.

On a slightly different note, would it be worthwhile going for a multiple LNB holder as well and slotting in the lnb that comes with the Lidl system?

You need at least 75cm, 80cm to 110cm recommended for Multiple LNB. Sky Minidish is too small.
