Classic Policy - Fully comp question

Ive read thru the sticky and seems theres a couple of people who could be in the same boat as me.

Im in the market for classic insurance (i really want to get fully comp).
Ive ditched my 'modern' car as I walk to work and it was rotting away in the garage. The classic is for weekends. Im named driver on my girlfriends policy and wondering is there anybody in the same situation. Nobody will give me fully comp. FBD have been far and away the nicest and most helpful, 30 quid dearer but lovely to deal with.

Apologies if this has been posted eleventy million times before, but I couldnt find what I needed to know in the other threads.

    Thanks in advance. Maxi

    Have you talked to AXA?

one word of caution, and this may be slightly off-topic, but anyone who does have comprehensive insurance, DO MAKE sure you have an "agreed value" contract with your insurance company, as otherwise in the case of a write off, you will be left with pennies (oh, sorry, cents!!) when it's down to the insurance company to decide how much in their eyes (!!!) a 35 year old Volkswagen or Mercedes is worth...

Yep, they wont quote me unless I have my own main policy (not named driver) and a seperate classic policy. Ive been with the 12 years. So much for being a loyal customer eh!!

Thank man, but I found out the hard way when my car was pinched a few years back. Thats why I want as much cover as is possible.

no one will touch you, for a classic policy you need your own policy elsewhere, for regualr insurance they may not lie the age fo the car...mega stuffed

at least ya dont have to do an NCT or pay more than 42 a year in tax

    ya baldy git!!!!

Ring First ireland, they will insure a classic as an everyday car without a "modern car" policy. (could be just 3pty f&T, though, I can't remember)
    Keep well,

My law an Insurance Company has to offer you Insurance. Typically what they do is just load it by enormous amounts but they have to make the offer.

I'm insured with First Ireland and yes they do will do a classic policy without the need for a second modern car policy.I have my scimitar insured with them as my daily driver limited milage of 10K, my mate is in the same circumstances as you and has his Mk1 Consul insured with them. Bit dearer than typical classic policy but worth it.

I couldnt get anyone to even quote me so I called majestic financial servies and he got axa to insure me. Since i'm not 25 and dont have a full license its kind of expensive but at least i can drive my car now.
if you find a nice broker you'd be amazed at what you might get.
