I’m going to my boss to try to get a heftier salary, where do I start?…How do I go about it and what resources are available on the net which will help?
Perhaps people can tell me of their personal experiences, what to do and what not to do?

Its a negiotation process rather than a demand thing.

So be positive, look for a review (salary and/or performance). They may say it is has to be after you've been with a company for a certain length.

Have your list of achievements and the way you bring value to the company. Why you think you deserve your increase in cash. Be open to say compromise if they offer you a mixed bag of say increase and some other bonus'

I managed to get an extra 7.5K + 700 a month extra (working on site) after a year by just going in having why i think i should get the increase and getting feedback on my position. The extra 700 was up from 500 because we showed that it didnt cover the basic costs incurred by us working on site. Again when we went with numbers it worked fine.

Best thing be positive and dont go in defending a position

depends on what you do mate and whether your an asset to the company.

if they wanna keep you they will negotiate a new salary? is performance reviews not part of you contract?
