Fuji Finepix A500 Query

I am a complete novice when it comes to cameras and bought my first digital camera recently to take pictures of my little girl who has just started walking. The only problem is the delay between the time you press the button and the time the picture is actually taken. All I end up getting is the back of her head as she runs off.

I was hoping someone could let me know if it is possible to change this setting ( cannot find the manual )

    Thanks

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that's the problem with the usual compact digital cameras. The time between you clicking the button and the picture being recorded includes the time it takes to focus on the subject.

One thing you can do is to try pre-focusing, by pressing the shutter button down halfway and you'll hear the camera make a small noise as it focuses, then when you actually press the button the whole way down it should be less time before it actually records the picture. There's the time that it btakes to write the image to the memory card still to be taken into consideration after that and I'm afraid there's nothing you can do about that one.

If you have a continuous mode, using it may make things slightly faster.
The drawback is that once you release the button (you can take several pictures in one go) the camera will write them to the card and be unavailable.
That used to work on my Minolta compact.
