We're playing a few songs with the DMT string quartet next Tuesday, 30th May in Temple Bar Music Centre. Below is some info on the gig, well worth the admission and a good cause. We'll be playing a couple of new songs and an old favourite, as well as The Model.
    Till then...

'SONGS' FUNDRAISER NIGHT FEATURING TOP DUBLIN MUSICIANS

Singer songwriters backed by string quartet & DJ

Tuesday 30th May 2006, Temple Bar Music Centre, Doors 7.30pm, 10 euro

A fundraiser night in aid of DEBRA Ireland (www.debraireland.org) and Fighting Blindness (www.fightingblindness.ie) will be happening on Tuesday 30th May 2006 in the Temple Bar Music Centre. A group of Dublin singer songwriters and bands have got together with a string quartet and DJ to put on a night of new music. The night's entertainment will also feature a full mind reading show using members of the audience and a raffle!

The DMT String Quartet are specially formed for this show. They will be performing newly written arrangements of original songs by all the featured singers. Una O'Kane (violin), Adrian Hart (violin), Elaine Dillon (viola) and Paula Hughes (cello) have a vast amount of experience between them from bluegrass fiddle to symphonies. Members of the quartet have played with U2 and the National Symphony Orchestra.

Ruairi O’Connor (www.ruairioconnor.com) is at the forefront of the exciting new breed of Irish Mind Readers breaking onto the Irish entertainment scene. He will be premiering his brand new show before bringing it to audiences around the country.

Loughlin McSweeney (DJ) is hugely popular in Dublin with residencies in Hogans. He has also been the featured scratcher with many bands. On the night, he will be playing his own set, as well as joining with string quartet and singers.

Catherine Dowling (vocals) and Gerry Horan (guitar) of Dublin band Alphastates (www.alphastates.com) will be performing an acoustic set of their songs. Since the release of their debut album 'Made from Sand' in 2004, the band has become hugely popular in Ireland with many sellout shows including two Witness performances and a 6000 strong crowd at Oxygen. Highlights will include tracks from their upcoming album plus a cover of 'The Model' by Kraftwerk performed by Catherine with string quartet.

I Draw Slow have recently started playing their unique brand of country tinged folk to audiences around Ireland. Louise Holden (vocals) has been the lead vocalist in bands Tabularasa and the Global Funk Orchestra. Dave Holden (guitar) and Konrad Liddy (bass) are both members of the internationally successful bluegrass band Prison Love (www.prisonlove.info).

Dave Halpin is a singer songwriter from Dublin and can be seen playing every week with his band in venues around the city. On the night, he will be performing original material with new arrangements from his huge catalog of songs.

Sheila Robinson is a professional singer from Mayo. Her voice has been compared to country greats such as Natalie Merchant and Emmylou Harris. On a rare visit to a Dublin stage, she will be performing covers of classic country songs as well as material by the AC/DC and Greenday (with a string quartet, of course).

Aidan Murphy and Dave McFarlane are the organisers of the night and have decided to 'do a Bob Geldof' by performing some of their own songs. Aidan was previously musical director of the Global Funk Orchestra (20 piece funk/soul band) and will be writing the string arrangements for the evening. Dave McFarlane is a percussionist and songwriter who is director of drumming group Team Samba (www.teamsamba.com).
