If so, what did ye think of Bon Jovi
I was there, in the Hogan Stand. I read loads of reviews from people standing in the crowd describing it to be one of the best BJ concerts ever.
I however, like allot of people around me thought the sound was not up to scratch. And I was particularily annoyed to see the two large poles down on the field empty. At U2 these poles had huge speakers attached to them.
Plus, U2 had speakers hanging from the roof of the Canal End. Last Saturday, the only speakers in the whole stadium were at the front of the stage !!!!

Half way through the concert, people were seen streaming out of Croke Park in their hundreds !

Was Croke Park too big for Bon Jovi ?
Is Croke Park trouble-some with respect to sound ?
U2 did nt get the sound right at their Dublin gigs until the 3rd night.

I was there, and from where I was in the Hogan the sound was actually much better than I was expecting it to be......it's pretty nonexistent in the Canal End, and maybe was poor towards the back end of the stadium......I really enjoyed it, must say I didn't notice people streaming out until near the end when people were trying to beat the rush........was certainly packed coming up to the encore......

Wasn't too big for them - though I'm not sure what you mean by the question, crowd wise they did very well, and they've played to larger crowds, so I'd assume it's not too big a venue either..............maybe the sound setup wasn't right........

Most stadiums that size are troublesome in relation to sound, but yes, wind blowing a certain way will carry it away from you totally, on a calm night (there wasn't too much wind Saturday) you'll be clearly able to hear a gig up as far as Griffith Avenue......

Ya, yr right about the canal. I was talking to 5 friends who were in the canal, they left HALF way through the concert. Complained to the stewards on the way out about the sound been so bad. Stewards directed them to a gate and let them onto pitch. They said it was totally different down on the pitch.

It took U2 three attempts to get sound right. Thats what I meant by the original question. I dont think BJ had enough speakers in the stadium.

More importantly, the band did give it 5000 % on stage, I wont knock them for that. We enjoyed the gig, but most people around me did have the same problem. I know this because I ran around asked a good few people.

Next time Im standing in the crowd, read loads of reviews from people down in the field how it was the best BJ gig ever.

    Keep the Faith ! :-)

not bragging but seen em every time they've played ireland
and while i wouldnt call it their best gig it was still pretty good
(best gig maybe being the RDS in the storm, or the first time on the NJ tour when they were perhaps the biggest act in the world)

they took a while to get warmed up imo in terms of getting the crowd going
as a big fan i loved some of the less familiar songs the y played
dry county being my favourite BJ song of all
and some of the newer fans wouldnt have heard these

but they played the last 90 mins or so as per usual and no letting down on thier part

had a seated ticket but blagged my way to the pitch
the sound was pretty good except for the sambors's solos/leads
which were muffled and some pals who were near the back of the hogan stand lower tier said they heard it the same as me

there were a few seats empty maybe they were like me and went down to ground level but there was loads of space at the back of the pitch
but there isnt a venue other than croker that can accommodate 70k of fans

i and anyone i spoke to walked out of there happy so thats all we asked for i suppose:D :D:D

Most of the good reviews are from people who were down on the pitch
Any bad reviews, are from people in the stands

NExt time, hit the pitch i guess

It was my 4th time seeing them, dunno if it was the best but still great, though. I thought Jaded Sun had the best sound out of the 3 bands that day. I was on the pitch just outside the pit and on occassion the sound was muffled. Strangley, some people on our bus who had canal end tickets (high up too) thought it was a great show with no problems at all.... how odd...

What IS becoming apparent is there are mixed responses to Bon Jovi. I reckon we need to get CSI Miami into Croke Park and get some accoustic analysis carried out, see what the hell is going on with the sound travelling through the stadium !!!! :-)
