So im walking around town yesterday and I said to myself why not buy an xbox 360. So i went into gamestop and handed my €500 over and got an xbox 360 /w hard drive, wireless controller, headset, vga adaptor and oblivion and 2 cents in change.

I have it all set up in my bedroom connected to my Dell 2005FPW monitor and I have to say I am extremely happy with my purchase.

My boggle is however what do I do now?

I have Oblivion which is deemed to be one of the top RPG's in existence. I am an avid PC gamer so I games pretty well on that platform but what exactly is the 360 good for game wise? I know every console has the "pretty" generation of games which are released more as a showcase of the consoles power rather than quality but what games should I consider on my next trip into town?

I have Oblivion as I said and Ghost Recon is in the post on its way to me so any other suggestions?

    Condemned is great.

Also kameo, i know it looks kinda kiddy but its such a sublime game.

Maybe pgr3 if you're into driving games.

Also if you have broadband, connect it to your xbox and download geo wars

I played PGR 1 on the plain old xbox and its easily the best racing game I ever played. I will keep it in mind.

I have never heard of condemned.

I have broadband but the 360 just keeps tellign me its connected but has an invalid IP address.

I remember seeing videos for Gears Of War. Any news on that?

I just ordered Knights Of The Old Republic II from play.com in an attempt to keep me busy when I finish Oblivion. The original Knights is my favourite game full stop so maybe that gives people an indication of what I am looking for.

    Condemned is good.

Kameo is good but short, if you can get a lend of it from someone that'd be better (Xtravision don't rent 360 games yet). I personally don't think it's worth the full price as it's so short, but it is fun.

Need For Speed Most Wanted is a lot of fun (for a while), though you may have already played that on another platform.

Hitman Blood Money could be good (out this friday I believe).

Oblivion is great (played it on PC though, not 360).

Lots of great (smaller) games on XBL Arcade, like Geo Wars, Marble Blast Ultra and Bejeweled 2/Jewel Quest. Hexic HD is on the drive you have, and is very addictive.

How did you `connect' your Xbox to your broadband?

Cable from xbox/pc to router downstairs which is connected into a seperate mini router for modulating the BB signal coming from the wireless aerial on the roof.

Everything works for the pc but not the xbox360. So i changed the settings (correctly) to manual, i even put the ip in the DMZ of the router with no luck. the pc is normally set up in automatic which works fine but the xbox360 doesnt works either way. Our router is crap though and I have a Linksys one in transit from Komplett through DHL since yesterday morning anyway so maybe that will work.

I will say this much though: the 360 originally told me that it wasn't connected at all and now I have it saying that it is but the ip is invalid which is progress of some sort. Obviously the router is having some DHCP issue or something because it should just auto assign ip's etc etc.

Oblivion is keeping me well entertained so far so I'm not under that much pressure...I just want to get bugfixes etc for Oblivion.

Ehh, sublime is a bit too good of a word, Kameo is a very nice little rpg, but it's very short, and has almost no replayability.

Plenty of nice demos on the marketplace, so you gotta get on there!

Not TOO many "must have" games out at the mo, IMO. I think Condemned is bloody awful, ditto both Fifa games. Oblivion and GRAW are arguably the two best games on the machine. COD2 is worth picking up 2nd hand, but you've probably played that on the PC already. Live COD2 is a big let down though.

I have to say I enjoyed Tomb Raider, even if it is on the short side. Fight Night looks gorgeous and is a lot of fun to play. Worth picking that one up.

I'm a huge Hitman fan, so I'll definately be getting that on Friday.

hi, i'm like yourself, just recently purchased an xbox360 and being a PC gamer found it really good. the only games i have at the moment is ghost recon(really good) tomb raider(really good too though short) and amped 3(good fun game) which i got off play.com for 29euro which was a great price.

i would be interested in oblivion as i played the previous installment on the Pc, also is dead or alive 4 any good?

I bought that off play too and went down to gamestop and said it was a present then got €70 store credit! ;) I've ordered another one to actually play tho!

thats class:) must remember that thanks:D

Amped!, there's a game I haven't played for a while I think I'll give that a spin tonight, it'll be a change from Oblivion :D Love the cutscenes in amped they add a nice bit of humour to the game rather than making you wish yo could skip them, like in most games.

One game I've found to be great fun and easyish to compete in online is Burnout 3. Crash party modes are great with a couple of mates and a few beers cause it's got a low skill level to do ok but it's still challenging to master (bit like the guitar really :D)

I have to say for me the FPS's I've played (owned and completed COD2 & PD0, downloaded the demo's of BF2, Graw & Quake 4) didn't impress me much but then I've only ever been a casual FPS Player and it seems everybody who plays them online is dedicated to the point of fanatisism :( or maybe I am just just crap.

Either way I don't see myself buying anymore of them until I can either rent them for a few days first or Quake wars arrives, bizarly I've liked all the Quake games except 4 but I don't think I was the only one who didn't like Q4 :D

oh forgot to mention UNO it's like Geo wars in that it's easy to get started but also like cigerettes cause it's hard to quit once you've started :D

Due in the Autumn, err... might as well point you to this preview/E3 impressions that I wrote here.

Masseffect (another game expected late this year) should interest you, from the developers of KOTOR...

Well I picked up PGR3 yesterday for €50 from gamestop and I have to admit its awesome. The original was my favourite racing game and I'm glad to see that in this one they kept the brilliant control style.

I also picked up KOTOR 1 and Thief: Deadly Shadows on the xbox to play on the 360.

I got Live working too and PGR3 is great fun especially when people are screaming at you through the headset for ramming them.

    Dermington,
You probably know this already, but in case you don't. Before buying original Xbox games check the compatibility list because not all games are compatible.

Mass Effect is going to be great. Dead Rising is out later this year - September (I think I'll die of anticipation before that's actually released though \o/ ). Gears Of War and Quake Wars look great.

Thanks. The guy in gamestop made sure to tell me before I bought them which was sound. He had a list of games that were compatible...I wanted to get lots of other ones but they were incompatible (such as Fallout something something)...

I also tried to get Jade Empire collectors edition but they couldnt find the discs

I'm a huge neverwinter nights fan and a kotor fan so anything Bioware gets a thumbs up from me :D

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Also if anyone wants to sell Baldurs Gate Dark Alliance II i would be happy to buy it if it works on the 360. I cant find it anywhere and the original was great on the xbox.

I never liked the Baldurs Gate games on the Xbox, they just didn't feel like real Baldurs Gate games, so dumbed down and repetitive. I'm pretty sure it was the second one I played (and completed co-op) but I wouldn't recommend it, though if you liked the first one then you will probably like this one, as far as I know they're pretty similar. I guess it just wasn't the same for me as the PC versions, they were more like action games than proper RPGs, they just didn't sit right with me I suppose.

Oh BTW there will be a Baldurs Gate III (for PC) ! And of course NWN 2.

    And this might be handy:

Dont worry I know the difference between RPG and hack+slash.

Dark Alliance was just a load of fun with two people...reminds me of Diablo 2.

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I never took interest in the original Baldurs Gate series so I have not played either of them (flog me if you must).

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Thanks for the list that will definitely come in handy.

    I wasn't implying you don't :)
And as you played the first Dark Alliance then you know what they're like. I was just saying they're not my cup of tea.

For shame! If you get the chance, play the second one. Doesn't need a very good PC because it's so old, but it's one ye olde greats.

What about Halo 2 over Xbox Live? Still the best game on any Xbox...

perfect dark zero gets good reviews,if you like complex online shooters, like halo 2,if you have broadband, the single player is not so good.

PD0 wasn't bad but I thought COD2 was beter for one player either way I traded them both as I'm not a big fan of FPS's I tend to play through them get killed really quickly online and then get frustrated and get rid of them :D
