I have on occasion the need to move large files from one place to another. The handiest way to do this is to use an External drive ok!

Any one got ideas on ones to avoid or as the title suggest recommend types >100Gb’s

I would recommend one with a button to unmount the device from the pc. I have a philips 250GB bought in PCWORLD ,little pricey, but work well .

I have found that most external hard drives are pretty travel safe, but
for frequent travelling (like work -> home, or regular trips to friends), having
a bus powered model (firewire or USB 2.0) is a more useful function (saves
    carrying around power cables)

The casing of my Maxtor One Touch is physically scarred from travel,
but its fine. But all the tough units are typically using laptop hard drives,
lower power, bus powered and better shock resistance.

If you were doing a lot of things like say using the exernal drive with a laptop
on the train/plane I would advocate using one of the more tougher models
that are designed for use while in motion.

I have a Maxtor One Touch 160gb, got it from Komplett.ie and a Western Digital External HD USB2.0 120gb, both have been through plenty of travelling with me and work fine.
