You overtook the second runner and took their place, therefore you're
coming second.

2 : If you overtake the last runner, what position are you now in?

If you answered second-last, once again you're completely wrong. Think
about it...How can you over take the person coming
last? If you're behind them then they can't be last. The answer is
impossible!!

It would appear that thinking is not one of your strong points. You
would make a good weak link!!!

Anyway, here's another to
try, don't take any notes or use a calculator, and remember your replies

must be instantaneous. Take heart!! (that was the

3: Take 1000. Add 40. Add another 1000. Add 30. 1000 again. Plus 20.

I got them all correct first time. The most ridiculous of all being number 3. What kind of idiot counts that as 5000 for gods sake.

When they are all in a vertical list, you can add them quickly one by one, and the mind somethimes adds the final figure and comes up with 5000

I don't think this is an impossible question.

The correct answer is that you're in first place. If you overtake the person coming last then you've obviously lapped them and therefore are in the lead!

use a calculator and you'll see the answer. its a mind trick when done in the head. majority of normal people that do it first time come up with 5000, no matter how many times they do it

not 5000. you're adding the 1 to the wrong column
