Im just finished 1st science! You could be anatomist, pharmacologist, ecologist, physist, chemist, biochemist, microbiologist, physiologist, and a mathematician.A lot of scope!

    dont forget botonist, zoologist...
i did first science this year and my advice for you is to think about doing Group C.its Chemistry, Physics, Maths and Biology. (hons maths, chistry and physis can be done trí ghaeilge if you want)
it gives you the best choices of subjects for 2nd year, unlike the other selections.

if your in galway you should call into the uni to the career guidence crowd and they will advice you.

Finished science a few years ago and am in postgrad now. To be honest, the B.Sc (general or honours) alone won't really get you a world changing job. A quick post grad after it though will increase your employability quite a bit.

You can do a quick 1-year Masters, a semi-quick 2-year Masters that will probably set you up in a job as part of the course, or you can go for the big one and take the 3/4 year PhD plunge. This isn't too bad as there are no exams or anything and you get paid.

cheers...I just dont think i could bare working for some big company, doin shifts in a lab, monitoring products or ingredients or whatever, doin the same thing everyday, ya know.....
It shud be an interestin course to study though.

Done Earth Science in first year to avoid Physics - best decision ever. Don't know if the same staff are there now but when I was taking the classes the lecturers were loopy (in a good way!). They were always up for a laugh and really happy to teach - somewhat of a rarity in universities.

Had a good experience there, you'll enjoy it if earth science is your thing!

Ya im definately gonna try and avoid physics anyway, the only science subject im doin at the mo is biology, and higher maths...if that counts... but really enjoy biology. The chemistry will prob be enuf trouble...
is there any reason for doin the specific Earth and Ocean science course...it seems to be the same as undenominated science (without tha choice).

The denominated courses can be more focused but don't leave you room for mind-changing. If you're sure ocean science is your baby then go for it but if not then you're tunneling yourself a little. To be honest, I don't know much about the earth science denominated courses but if you're looking to avoid physics, chances are you can't in the denominated courses.

I heard a nasty rumour recently that even the undenominated course in 1st year has been adjusted so that physics is harder to avoid - a little unfair!

I'm a fan of the undominated science (due to the fact that its what I done and have no experience of the denominated courses!) as you can specialise strongly in the areas that you like - in my case its been cell/molecular bio and microbiology all the way since 2nd year! You got to be careful though that you choose subjects that compliment each other (i.e. biochem with mircobio) and not subjects that lend no help to each other and make you less employable (i.e. botany with physiology).

If ya done Geography in the LC it will help. If ya have that and the biology you will fly 1st yr. I did it for 2 yrs but stopped it to do ... duh duh da ... physics. Wasn't my cup of tea a bit vague. I say do undenominated as there is almost no difference from any specific course in the first ~ 2yrs and you also leave options open in case ya take a fancy to someting else. a lot harder to change from specifc to undenominated than the other way around.
