Hauppage PVR500, NTL digital, and WMCE...

OK, got myself the above, connecting the NTL Pace box to the Hauppage via Scart to s-video cable. When I try and run the set up wizard for TV in Media Center, I'm not getting any tv signal showing up, along with an error that the decoder may have malfunctioned. I've searched the problem and have answers ranging from something to do with RGB output or input, to drivers needing to be updated.
Does anyone have any ideas? The PC I'm using is a Dell dimension, I wiped the hard drive and installed a fresh copy of WMCE, pretty sure I've all the relevant drivers installed....

    Thanks again for the help....

Hmmm, is the cable between the NTL box and the capture card bi-directional. Some cheaper cables can only transfer the sigal in 1 direction.

    I had that problem anyway

I'm pretty sure it is.... From what I can gather it seems to be a driver/ decoder issue... I'll try again later tonight and see if I have any more joy...

Think you have to use the Composite In rather than s-video In?

Or at least thats how i set it up for a friend of mine...

dalk hit the nail on the head you'll have to use composite at least for the time being, there are various scart->s-video adaptors some don't work at all, some only give a black & white picture and some do a proper conversion.

Sucks I know I found out the hard way after going though a few of them, the only thing I would suggest is make sure the connections are secure at all points from the tuner to the TV just in case something is loose but other than that no other ideas.

Maplins sell a scart RGB to s-video converter but I've read reviews that the quality of said adapter has declined over time and that the only good quality ones are from these guys never tried them out myself but not read any complaints about the product other than the price on various AV forums.

Thanks for the tips lads, by christ did this set up wreck my head! 8T8, you're right, you need a converter, as opposed to a cable adaptor. I picked up the one in Maplin yesterday, I'd well believe it doesn't last long, it looks and feels like a piece of crap, but it does the trick for now. I'll check out the one you linked to if it begins to die on me.

What REALLY screwed me up though, was after setting up the converter, with all the cables going where they should, my NTL digital box had it's output set to composite, instead of the necessary RGB. Only took me 9 hours to figure that one out, the whole rig came close to going out the window!

Anyway, it's all more or less set up now and my blood pressure is back to normal....

    Thanks again lads...
