Divx & AC3

I could post this in a number of forums but picked this one as I think b/band is the general area for these type of threads

I get a lot of divx files where it says AC3 in the filename.

When I stick these into my Div player - which is hooked up to a capable amp - I cannot get what I expect off AC3 which is 5.1 sound

    Any advice?

Are you sure they are AC3 and someone has not just written AC3 in the filename.

You need to examine the file and be sure of what codecs were used.

    Go here: http://www.snapfiles.com/Freeware/gmm/fwvideo.html

Perhaps use VideoInspector or AVICodec programs to determine what codecs are really in use.
