    Lads,

I bought a sat nav system for the car last Thursday evening from a well known electrical chain store. When buying it I asked if the unit had a facility to update the maps which I was told it did so happy in that knowledge I bought it...

Unfortunately the unit has now developed a problem and keeps freezing and to make it worse I've just found out you cannot update the maps on it...

I'm going back to the shop tomorrow to try sort it out..

Am I entitled to a replacement unit seen as its only a few days old? and can I instead of taking the same unit pay the difference and get a better unit that the maps can be updated on???

I just need to have my facts straight before I go in to them.

I'm not seeking legal advice nor intend to use any advice I recieve in a legal context

You are not allowed seek or give legal advice in this forum. Because it's a consumer issue, I'm not deleting this or banning you yet, but please respond appropriately to the PM I'm about to send you.

Furthermore, there is a consumer issues forum.

Go to Biz - Consumer Issues.

For future posters, this thread is fine, the OP has included something to say he's not looking for advice!

Sale of Goods, Supply of Services Act http://www.irishstatutebook.ie/ZZA16Y1980.html

Implicit in every contract that a good be of "merchantable quality", ie. it does what it says it does.

Can also sue to rescind the contract for misrepresentation.
