Are there any special provisions in your contract that relate to maternity leave?

    According to Oasis.gov.ie
If you become pregnant while in employment in Ireland, you are entitled to take maternity leave for a basic period of 22 weeks. At present, at least two weeks have to be taken before the end of the week of your baby's expected birth and at least four weeks after. You can decide how you would like to take the remaining 16 weeks. Generally, employees take two weeks before the birth and 20 weeks after. You can also avail of an additional 12 weeks unpaid maternity leave.

The entitlement to maternity leave from employment extends to all female employees in Ireland (including casual workers), regardless of how long you have been working for the organisation or the number of hours worked per week.

The link for that is http://www.oasis.gov.ie/birth/benefits_and_entitlements_relating_to_birth/maternity_leave.html

You may not be entitled to Maternity pay from your company while on leave but you are entitled to Maternity leave. What do they want you to do, give birth at your desk!!!
depending on how many stamps you have you may be entitled to the state maternity benefit.
    Congratulations and good luck

As others have said. Maternity leave you ARE entitled too. Maternity pay you're not.

You can also get parental leave (unpaid) though the company can refuse you a few times before they have to give it to you. This only applies if you take it in one block. If you try to take it say one day a week they can refuse that.

You need to get your companies HR policy on these in writing and work out what they entitle you to.
