crashed this morning - insurance query

coming down custom house quay this morning 3 cars in front of me a guy suddenly pulled into an adjacent lane.
The girl in the car in front braked really hard, my brakes didn't stop me in time and i went into the back of her.

The damage to her bumper was 2 fingernail sized patches of paint from my front mudguard - absolutely no dents or other scratches. tbh - a good clean would prob. get rid of it.
I came off worse- sore knees and elbows but nothing broken- the front mudguard is totally wrecked as I threw the bike to the side to avoid her.

Anyway- she wanted to exchange insurance and called her company before I could even comprehend what had happened.
Now she seemed genuine - she said she wasn't hurt including her kneck.
She said her cousin was a panel beater and that she was sure it wouldn't be expensive to fix.
I'm just wondering if it's best to sort this between us?
I rang my insurers to give my details but can you cancel a claim if both parties decide to do so?

    thanks in advance

Moral of the story, always keep a safe following distance and allow for "what ifs", but glad you're ok.

Probably best to settle privately if the damage is low - especially if you have a no claims bonus. There's no obligation for either party to claim.
You did the right thing in reporting it, as this CYA if she changes her mind and decides to claim after all. You're supposed to report any incident that could potentially lead to a claim to your insurance company, whether you were at fault or not.

In Cavan there was a great fire / Judge McCarthy was sent to inquire / It would be a shame / If the nuns were to blame / So it had to be caused by a wire.
