Sky+ and phone connection

I'm getting Sky+ installed next week, and the T&Cs say that the box must be connected to a phoneline for 12 months.

I don't particularly want to have a phone cable trailing around the room all the time and am wondering what happens if I do take the cable out after installation? Will I lose service?

Only a Mirror sub "really" needs a phone. You have to pay extra for install without phone so they may charge a one off fee if your phone is disconnected.
