Right you need to add the second hard drive as a slave to the first!! That way it will be picked up but after the windows one!! ;)

As Jonny said, Windows is detecting your new HDD and believes that it's there and only there that it'll find your OS.

Just check the jumper positions on both hard drives. There's a chance that your original may not have been setup as master which was never a problem until you added the second drive.

Ok thanks for that just to clarfy the following is the setup as it stands in my pc
The boot hdd and DVD-ROM are one one IDE together the HDD is the master and the DVD-ROM is the Slave the second HDD i connected to a new IDE cable as the master so if I change this to slave it should be ok?

I'd put the two hard drives on the same cable and the DVD drive on the second cable. Put windows HD as master and new drive as slave. Put master on the end of the cable and slave on the connector below that.
