Anybody tried it yet? Saw the new tap in a bar last week but it was lunch time and was down in Limerick for the weekend. Must try a taste next time I'm out. The Brew 39 was good for a change so I hope the new stuff's not worse.

Oo, interesting. What kind of stuff is it supposed to be? Or have they not said; just try it and see?

Tried it yesterday, its nicer than Brew 39, Guinness have nothing on their site about it yet so Im not sure what its supposed to be like. But its creamier than regular Guinness and Brew 39, its got a certain taste i cant put my finger on it, it might be a hint of chocolate but im not sure, go out and taste it anyway, Im sure you'll like it.

Just tried it - maybe my taste buds are not firing but I didn't find it different enough from regular Guinness to see any point in selling it. The idea of brewing special stouts is great but unless there's a real difference from the standard brew what's the point? Show some imagination Guinness!

Had two pints last night in Sinnott's. Fairly similar to the regular stuff but I think they have upped to bittering hops in the boil. The bitterness seemed to linger a bit longer on the back of the tongue. I'm with bigears on this one. Guinness need to do something radical for a change. They have some of the best brewers and brewing facilities in the world. Surley they could risk doing something a little different.

I tried this last night, it is miles from normal Guinness, it is really hoppy and bitter in the aftertaste. Not something I was mad about, I stuck with the regular guiness. Brew 39 was much nicer in my opinion as it went the opposite and had less hop that the normal Guinness.

seen it last night and had a few pints, def different to the usual (missed brew 39) creamy and not as sharp of an aftertaste compared to the normal Guinness they had in the same pub but omfg this morning i've never had it so bad.

I had it last week, have to say I really liked it, wish they'd keep it on but doubt they will. I found it had sweeter taste the regular uncle Arthur's

Did you not get the bittery hop at the end of it?

its got a certain taste i cant put my finger on it, it might be a hint of chocolate but im not sure

Moe draws back and offers him a real new brand: "Red Tick Beer."

Homer: Hmm... Bold, refreshing, and something I can't quite put my finger on.

[at the Red Tick Beer brewery, dogs are swimming in the tank]
Man: [takes a sip] Hmm... Needs more dog.

I must sample this again as I really didn't detect the stronger hops or bitterness at all when I first tried it. Anyone know if different hops are used in this brew?

I think it has a creamier taste than Guinuess, but as of yet I'm still undecided if I like it or not. Brew 39 had a big impact on me when that came out.

Defo thought it was slightly sweeter here too, tried a pint of it on Sunday, thought was nice + smooth + creamy, far far better than that Brew 39 muck.
I only had the 1, I'd like to maybe try 3 or 4 next time to see how that stands up

I tried a few over the weekend in one sitting, purely for research purposes...

I think you're right about the hops blub. they are there alright, i think what threw me was the bitterness is different. are they using less roasted barley i wonder? all in all not a bad drop. it would be interesting to see them brew something that's even more of a departure from normal Guinness though - that is if they do decide to keep one of the Brewhouse series on a long term basis. If I'm looking for a change from regular Guinness I would still be more inclined to have one of the Porterhouse brews or a Beamish.

I haven't tried it yet... but my local is doing a promotion on it later in the month where you can get a free pint of it... but I don't think I'll be going along as my local does the worst pint of Guinness on the planet.

I really felt like a pint after finishing work on Friday, so I went along.. but it was undrinkable... far too cold and poured straight in one go.. everyone was drinking from the pint bottles instead.

So.. I'll have to give Toucan a go somewhere else.. Any decent pubs in the Dublin city centre doing it?

They're losing market share and I think the Brewhouse series has two purposes.

1/ To attempt to cash in on the premium beers/microbrewery market by changing the beers on a regular enough basis.

2/ It's a large marketing campaign/taste test and they'll change proper Guinness based on the brews that go down the best from this range depending on what sells.

Wasn't this supposed to be rolled out on a more nation-wide basis? Or is it still only available in Dublin?

I had it in the Oval in Cork last Friday and have seen it in a number of places down here in Cork. I must say I was pleasently surprised after trying the other stuff that was out. I'll have to give it another nights drinking before I decide on its characteristics :D

pretty much every pub in Galway has it, although seein nobody seems to have the same complaint i did earlier in the thread stick to the Dublin ones. My mate had "trouble" too

Its kinda funny actually what a complete disaster Guinness products have been outside of Guinness... Guiness Light, Extra Cold, Breo etc etc. Then when they thought sticking Guinness in a bottle was suddenly going to make Guinness the favourite drink in nightclubs. Lasted about a month.
I stopped working in bars a while ago now so Im not so sure how the Storehouse stuff is going but I think its doing fairly good.
And also Diaggio, for such a HUGE company they really have some of the worst product and marketing ideas and just dont know when to stop.
The Smirnoff twist stuff for example... Plain and simple it didnt sell and it doesnt sell, yet all over the world Absolut and Stoly flavoured vodkas fly off the shelf. And Diaggio persist with Smirnoff twist and change the bottle and still just cannot sell it.

As for Toucan, big fan. Yes its fairly similar to Guinness but a stout is a stout guys, if you want a radical stout go to porty and get a triple chocolate stout. Like cold fizzy drinking chocolate that gear. Toucan is a lot sweeter than Guinness when it hits your mouth Ive found. And it definately has a longer lingering bitterness. A very tasty pint indeed, but I suppose thats just my opinion and each to their own.
