Have bought one of these routers and was hoping to get it set up, followed the instructions but no success there. Im on eircom bb through the standard netopia modem, cant even get on the net on one computer through the linksys, has anyone got a guide or simple instructions specific to eircom? Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Have you managed to get a wireless connection to the linksys - i.e. can you access the setup pages via the wireless connection if you put 198.162.1.1 in your browser ?

Not going purely wireless, connecting to two pcs by ethernet then lappy goes wireless. Can access 192.168.1.1 fine on the pc, but settings wise im stumped.

You need to set your eircom modem into bridge mode (read the manual), thenconnect it to the Linksys Internet port. Then use the linksys to handle the PPPoE settings in place of the modem.

Try this setup - it works for me.
Your host name will be different of course,I think the important bit is 'Starting IP address' when I changed this it worked.

Don't know if it will work for you but worth a try,I was ages trying to get it going.
(I didn't put it in bridge mode as sometimes I use the eircom modem on its own)

If you put modem into bridge mode, you need to set Internet Connection Type in the above screen shot to PPPoE. Then enter your eircom username and password.

Oh yea - a simple thing, make sure you plug in the Linksys and let it boot and settle down before switching on the modem.

I had to put the router on a different subnet before it would work for me.

Thanks for the replies guys, first thing I tried was to bridge the router from eircom, once I did that the linksys was just plug an play no configuring needed. Thanks for the help.

Guide to bridging from netopia for anyone in the future.
