    Heylo all,
noticed a wet patch on my ceiling in bedroom, investigated up in the attic to find a tear in the felt stuff that goes under the slates(a tarred kind of meshed cloth). Anyone have any fixes for it? Any way of patching it up?

    Hi,

Roofs leak from the outside, there are thousands of houses in Ireland without any felt, the easiest and best way is to inspect the roof for broken slate; tiles.

Patching the felt will only move the leak further down the roof.

    Thanks for the reply pete,
So is there some patch kit you can buy or something then to fix it from the inside, or does it need to be torched or anything to make the tar stick.
I'm so scared of heights!! Dont like the idea of getting up to replace a slate or two, can you give me a ballpark on what would be the usual charge for it?

    Hi,

    Whatever you do,

Do Not use a torch or any form of naked flame on hession based felt, for one you will most likely burn youself from the dripping tar and while nursing your wounds the rest of the roof will most likely be a blaze.

Sorry about the prices but I do have one rule on Boards and that is not to post prices.

There are a few who post who got small jobs done at very good rates maybe they an recommend someone to you.

    hi

felt is your second line of defence.if water is penetrating your slates that is the problem that needs to be addresed. the the felt can be patched but that will not fix the primary problem. look for a broken slate above the area of the leak in your ceiling.for safetys sake, if your not sure of youself at heights dont get on the roof.broken bones are a lot harder to fix
