    Hi,

I'm trying to look up flights on behalf of a friend from Zagreb to Ireland. It's proving to be a bit of a pain. It looks like they might have to go via England.

I've tried using http://www.skyscanner.net/ but it seems to be acting odd today.

Any ideas on the best place to look for this?

    Reply ASAP please. thanks

Best bet would be to get a bus or a train to either Vienna or Budapest. Aerlingus fly direct to Dublin from those 2 airports.

Thanks but I'm looking specifically for a flight if possible but I'll keep it in mind.

    Anyone else?

They can get direct flights from Trieste or Rijeka to Dublin, check Croatia Tours. or alternatively go via Cologne with Germanwings, or from Slovenia via London with Easyjet, or from Trieste or Graz via London with Ryanair.

www.whichbudget.com is always a good site to use, I find anyway!
    Good luck!

I'll look at them all later. Keep them coming if anyone else has anymore suggestion.

As per previous poster, best bet and cheapest is to get the train from Zagreb to Trieste through Ljublana and fly direct to Dublin.

I should also state that the people taking this journey are not from Zagreb and need to travel there. They live near the Croatia/Bosnian border in Bosnia.

But public transport is very poor in Bosnia so any travelling is quite an effort or in some cases not possible.

Is Split not a viable alternative then?

Ya, I was just assuming Zagreb would be more viable as it's a bigger city and that. But it's all good.

If they're from near southern Dalmatia, Aer Lingus have several direct flights per week as well from Dubrovnik.

www.concordetravel.ie and www.croatiatours.ie operate regular charter flights, with seat only options as well from both Split and Dubrovnik

Is your friend Croatian or an Irish dude living there?

If he is Croatian and you're booking his flight via London, keep in mind that he will need a transit visa even though he only has a connecting flight and is not leaving the airport. You're better off booking a flight via any other city. UK is the only country in the EU which requires Croatian nationals to have an entry and transit visa.

    Good luck.

They are Bosnian but I'll keep that in mind. Do Bosnians need a transit visa in the UK?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,592 ✭✭✭Ancient1

Very likely. In fact I'd say they do but I can't be sure.

Have him / her ring the British consulate in Zagreb asap and he'll find out in no time. The British consulates normally maintain local websites too, so do some googling.

Edit: Remember that you cannot pay for a transit visa at the airport (that used to be the case in the good ol days). You need to have one before you board the flight.

    Here you go dude.

Edit - just noticed the news on the site - it states that Croatians don't need a visa for the UK anymore. Don't know if that applies to Bosnians as well though.

budgetroutefinder.com will list all your options with budget airlines.

The cheapest way (if you are flexible with the dates) is to fly Wizzair from Zagreb to London (Luton) and then Ryanair from London (Luton) to Dublin.

You have about 3 hours between the flights, which is enough time to collect your luggage and check-in with Ryanair. (you'll have to do that since you're flying two different airlines)

The cost is about 150 euro including taxes.

If you don't want to mess around with two different airlines, then you have a couple of options..

Malev fly Zagreb to Budapest and Budapest to Dublin - it's about 300 euro.
Czech Airlines fly Zagreb to Prague and Prague to Dublin - around the same price.
Alitalia fly Zagreb to Milan and Milan to Dublin - prices vary greatly, but the last time I flew with them it cost 240 euro.

All the prices I mentioned are with taxes.

I booked Dublin/Dubrovnik route yesterday (via Budapest) with Malev airlines

€210 return including taxes ... It's about as good as I could get.

Um, that's pretty good.. but Dubrovnik is nearly 600km away from Zagreb!

T'is true, but going by OP description, it's unclear where his friends live in Bosnia.

I was just showing off :p

Thanks for the help everyone. They've booked with Malev airlines going via Budapest. Certainly didn't cost €210!

I got €169 plus taxes = approx €210, which I ain't complaining about for a return flight....plus it was Dubrovnik, which is 600km further away ya know:p

If they got cheaper fair play to them, but I have to go out within specific dates.
