Never thought Id see the day when "luxurious" and City West Hotel" were mentioned in the same sentence, the place is a kip.

Oscar is there another hotel in Dublin that can cater for the numbers we have in the way City west can?
I've looked at other options such as Jury's and the new Crown Plaza but none can offer what the City West have.

That still doesnt make it luxurious, I think that the fact its a dump was what oscar was trying to put across

....can't please everyone.... the golf course is fine. i might add it to my portfolio of kippy hotels.

I understand the point exacty. What I'm trying to do is have a intelligent conversation about this as it is of high importance.

B.T.W a dump is a place where you dipose of rubbish. 4star hotel with championship golf course, leisure centre and the best conference facilities in the country is certainly not such a place.

And it is way too awkward to get to if you don't have a car. Pity as I might have played some of the supporting events. Public transport is a crock :(

I played the golf course a couple of times and I think the whole complex is luxurious, but I am pleased easily in my book if you can land a helicopter in a hotel well then its luxurious. All I need now is a helicopter to go with the cheap golf clubs.

Beacon Court is unbelievably sweet. Location is ideal for people anywhere in Dublin as it's only a 5 minute walk from the LUAS line in Sandyford. The facilities, bar, restaraunt etc are all superb there. I would highly recommend it!

Would you believe 40pax is the most they can cater for at one time. 5 separate conference rooms, with the above being the biggest.

Yes, I spoke with conference manager.

    lol.

The flashiest hotel in Dublin, bang on the Luas Line, bang on the M50, on the edge of Dublin's major Industrial Estate, and their biggest meeting room is a phone box:rolleyes:

Or maybe they just don't want the poker there which would be a pity if it is as handy as ye say.

For any tournament organiser what about this hotel. Bus routes from city centre and just off the Malahide M50 exit.
I heard they ran a poker tournament recently so they're obviously open to poker events being run.

    Fintan

Pokerevents have always run excellent events at City West. However as a venue it has CRAP customer service. The food and bar facilities are non-existant after a certain time. I know there is nowhere else to hold the event but as a major customer of theirs surely they can see the value in providing a better service to Pokerevents patrons.

Not your fault but still a pain in the ar$e.

When the Mike was looking around for a new venue for the old AUL game he was onto the Hilton Dublin Airport and they were looking for crazy money, cant remember how much exactly but it was mad money maybe Mike can remember how much it was.

Since then I have spoken to other hotels and it is not too bad in comparison to some of them. At the time though it was €1000 for the room for the evening which is a lot of reg....

Some hotels would not even give a discount if it was booked for 52 nights of the year.

Thanks for the imput. When you say crap customer service is it the point about the the bar/food non-existant after a certain time that you are reffering to?
If not if you could give me something to go back to management with Dave I'd appreciate it.

At the recent Irish Open I decided to have a cup of coffee. The craic in the bar was great as ever, but as that avenue of entertainment isn’t open to me at the moment, I decided to join the English and have a cup of coffee. I went up to the girl at the refreshment counter and ordered a cup. Five or six English guys immediately got in line behind me, because if there’s anything that the English like better than a cup of tea, it’s a queue. The young lady handed me my coffee and said, "That will be €2, please." I nearly collapsed in astonishment, but not wanting to let myself down in front of the English, I gave her a fiver and told her to keep the change. Just as she took my money, there was an incredibly loud noise. This was like mothers’ milk to the English, who could now indulge in their other favorite pastime, discussing the weather. "Was that thunder I’ve just heard?" asked one of them. "No," I replied, "it was just Terry Rogers turning in his grave."

    Fintan

Getting food and drink at City West after 12 (I think) is nigh on impossible. My memory on exact time is hazy but it was def a topic of annoyance amongst players.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,679 ✭✭✭Daithio

Yeah it's definitely not your fault Fintan, any tourny that I've been to out there has been run excellently, but the hotel itself is terribly run. The biggest complaints I'd have about it would be the quality of food available, and the closing time of the bars / restaurants at night.

Have you tried portmarnock golf links and conference centre? its a fantastic place and is very big. The "Dublin Airport" LOL Hilton is accross the road from a knacker camp and about 200m from Darndale, eh I think Id prefer Citywest :D

The new Bewleys hotel up the road from the Hilton looks absolutely gigantic I imagine that could be a nice spot when it opens.

why not look outside of the capitol?? some great places around the country well able to cater for this type of event with great facilities and would likely be cheaper....

lol its a bit of false advertising alright!!

the portmarnock golfclub is very nice and spacious though can be a bit uppedy and could well be very costly also.
