After a team that primarily puts the ball up their jersey and bulldozes its way over the line wins the Heineken Cup there is no hope for club rugby anymore.

    Its dead.

I don’t see the correlation? Are you just trying to stir people up here?

Any chance of you backing up your arguement with reason or are you just a W.U.M.?

I hope not. What would I use to cure my insomnia?

This thread seems like its just stirring imo. this'll be locked unless the OP come up with a decent rationalisation of his post.

No not at all, they're just as bad. The point I'm trying to make is that neither finalists bother much with the passing game, its all just forwards, horrible to watch as a neutral.

Fair play to Munster and all that but ask anyone (non munster supporting) to name their backline and they'll struggle.

Yea we all know Munster's backline isnt the greatest in the world but I'm still not seeing how your making the connection between Munster having a poor backline and club rugby being dead

    Spot on Aldini.

However, how does the fact most of us don't know who the Munster back line are relate to club rugby.

Leinster play attractive open (too open) rugby and only had one team in the final four of the AIL Div 1 playoffs. What does that tell us?

NOTHING. It's club rugby and it sucks for a whole load of reasons.

To be honest I felt the Munster backline actually played a pretty decent game. Fair enough Munster have an amazing pack so you can't blame them for using that as the core of their game. But it allowed them to play some seriously aggressive/entertaining rugby.

As for club rugby being dead. On a personal note, I do see that the more the provincial structure proves itself the bigger the impact on club rugby... it still has its place though.

Well I've been to a club match this year, Shannon v Harlequins at Thomond actually, and I was impressed by the speed and commitment of the players. Mind you the crowd was a bit thin on the ground but that's to be expected.

Essentially, the club game is amateur now whereas the provincial set up is professional. The provincial layer will suck up the gate receipts and sponsorship. Clubs will have to refocus their sights on being community focussed organisations. That need not be a bad thing.

There are always in any sport far more people playing it for fun than professionally.

I guess the clubs really need to start learning lessons from the GAA. A lot of similarities there. GAA clubs are definately more community focussed and there is no reason why the rugby clubs can't play a similar role.

The players at club level are great, I'm just worried by falling attendances etc...
