Warping floor????

Myself and flatmate are moving out 6 months into our 1yr lease-however we gave about 2 months notice so that doesnt seem to be an issue with our letting agent/landlord. almost everything is in perfect nick (it was a new apt. when we moved in) however there is a problem with the floor in the living area- its all one room, the area around the sink/cooker etc is tiled and then the rest of the floor is that kind of wooden floor effect lino- and there's 2 spots where its warped- there's air bubbles or something- nothing we have done in the apartment could have caused this but we are a bit worried the landlord might try use this an excuse to not give us back our deposit-even though we reckon it was just bad installation. any ideas?

Happens all the time in new apartments - just ring your landlord and explain that the wooden floors are warping. The landlord will have to get someone in to fix them soon, or they will start to crack from being walked on while warped.

It is unlikely this is happening as a result of something you have done.

well, he doesn't need an excuse not to give you your deposit back, seeing how you are breaking the contract with him.

One thing that could have caused it was if there was any flooding.

Are you sure it's lino, not laminate? laminate usually warps if sufficient expansion gaps haven't been left.

Legally the landlord can't persecute you for "normal wear and tear". A laminate floor warping is almost certainly to do with moisture getting to the wood. The only way you could have done it would be if you had the submerged the laminate ie. flooding. If this isn't it, it's normal wear and tear

I would bet it hasn't been laid properly ie. insufficient damp-proofing or expansion gaps
