We're getting them done in college (heading to Thailand) and they're costing in or around 100euro. If you are a student its worth asking the college doctor about.

Try here for some info http://www.tmb.ie/exodus/

I got some two years ago before travelling to Mexico. It cost me about €150 and comprised of me having to buy the vaccination from the chemist, bring it to my GP and pay him for a standard visit. If you can avail of the option from college MrJoeSoap recommended then it'll probably be the least expensive.

I got the wife to administer them and saved the GP's fee. :)

when will you be in asia? we are doing RWT also, but hep A needs a booster in 6-12 months so, if its at the end of the trip get them closer to the time or u will have to get them again. malaria are tablets, u take them in a course over a few weeks. check it out with the Tropical Disease Centre in DunLaoire if u are near to there,

    good luck!

If there are a few of you going, go to your GP as a group and ask about getting a discount. Pretty much all GPs will knock a good chunk off if there are a few of you. I got mine for about €80 this way which i think is as cheap as you will get.

I got three jabs for RTW:\

    1 HepA and Tetanus
    2. Diphthera Typhoid Polio
    3. Yellow Fever
with consultation fee, prescription for malaria tabs and all the appropriate certification booklets and such.

for 145euro at Dr. Ekky in Drumcondra, opposite Quinns, who is a Travel Vaccination GP.

    Hope this helps

Ok good tip on Dr. Ekky hes 100euro cheaper than my doc was quoting.

Anyway im travelling to SE asia and he said the following:

    Hep A
    Dipteria
    Tetnaus
    Polio
    Typhoid
and malaria tablet prescription (although i dont think il need this as im just going to buy the tablets over in Thailand (i mite not even bother cos i dont plan going North although i mite go to Vietnam or Cambodia in which case i presume is hould take them)

130euro for them, this sounds about right.

Then if i want Hep B its an extra 75 euro. Should i bother with this? Is it that neccesary?

And what about Rabies? Should i get this (although he never mentioned it on the phone), anyone know how much he charges fro it?

    Thanks for the info

Do you not have to get 3 shots for Hep A aswell?

Ye dont think il bother with Hep b, dont plan on getting any blood transfusions nor using the local prossie service (although a couple of my mates do and there not going to bother getting the injection)

Cool stuff dont think il bother with malaria until i head to cambodia/vietnam, as im staying South Thailand. I also heard that if you take loads of B vitimans the mosquitos hate them and are less likely to bite...

WHo on god's green earth plans a blood transfusion??! To be honest anyone who forgoes a recommended vaccination to save themselves 30/40 odd euro shouldn't be allowed out of the country.

Ah i was havin a laugh obviously nobody plans a blood tranfusion.

If you were to get every single vaccination recommneded you would be talking about 5 or 600euro, you have to draw the line on what is and isnt needed somewhere....

I'm heading to thailand and cambodia in October and am getting all the vaccinations/antibitiotics listed on the tmc website for that reason. My health is something I can't put a price on. I read up on what those viruses do to you - and it ain't pretty - malaria is an impressively hateful bastard of a virus...

While I agree with taking care of your health, there are vacinnations you can leave out, like HepB if you're not planning to shag any locals and Rabies.
As far as I know the Rabies vaccine doesn't stop you getting it if you get bitten, it just gives you more time to get medical help. I think you have something like 3 days without it, and a week with the injection so unless you're gonna be in the arse end of absolutely nowhere, you shouldn't need it.

Yes and its also expensive to keep at bay

The doc gave me a perscription for €600 on Malarone tablets, gotta spend 60 days in Malaria zones

Why dont you buy your malaria tablets in thailand? thats what im doing there real cheap over there.

i got my injections today at Dr. Ekkys

    Polio
    Typhoid
    Tetnaus
    Dipteria
    Hep A
    they were 130euro

then i got the first Hep b shot which was 25quid, then another 1 at the end of next month and that should cover me for the time im over there. Although he said its only about 70percent effective. The 3rd shot is 5months down the road so i dont think il bothe with that tbh even though it then covers you for 5 years.

I was thinking of that alrite - there not the same tablet as Malarone, and you have to tke them for 4 weeks after you leave the area

But when I weight up the hassle of taking them for 4 week and paying out 600euro, I inclined to get them over there

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 145 ✭✭Grem

Go to your doctor for them. In the tmb place our injections were due to cost nearly 200 euro and our doctor did them for 110 i think. He's a sound doc tho!

Also get your malaria tabs in Thailand - if your going there. (Boots Khao San Road) They cost f&*k all compared to here. Make you feel quite dodge though/messed up my pill/makes you sensitive to sun. Just be careful, im sure your doc will advise you on all this.

And enjoy Asia. Fantastic place to be going!

More than half of the anti-malaria tablets in South East Asia are fake.

Get them here, get the jabs you need and don't risk your health just to save a few quid.
