I'm looking to setup a simple website for a society and I need to know where to begin. I have the basics of html but I wouldn't be too confident of programming a complete site. What are my options and what is the best way of going about this task?

How hard have you searched? A quick google on "web authoring" throws up loads of stuff. You could start here.

The Webmaster / Flash forum here on boards is a good place to get advice, and you won't have people saying "hay pay me and I'll do it" every second post.

post over in the Webmaster/Flash forum as Cult said but add some more info too such as:

how many pages you expect to have
is the content going to be updated a lot
how many users are going to be using the site and what is their background
how much are you willing to spend on the site (web hosting and stuff)
when do you need the site done by
maybe even posted up a URL to a site which has a similar setup to what you require

you should get yourself a decent answer then in no time

btw, if you pay me i will it for you :)

You're site is broken :p Nothing happens when i change the navigation dropdown at the top and click "go". Not a promising start if you're offering your services to design a website :p

also what service do you get for a games console setup, i wouldn't pay 25 euros for someone to tell me to RTFM i'd be looking for a nice big steak dinner

Just noticed the broken menu myself, as for game console hookup what if you got an xbox 360 have broadband ina different room and dont want to shell out €100 for the wireless adaptor and that €50 for a wireless router when i can cabling to the xbox from where your broadband is located, i also can supply a small hub if it is needed. As for Jack Flash's orginal Question try a program called Antenna Web Design Studio its great it wont create a site with perfect coding etc but it will look really good, i used it to learn HTML years ago before going on to dreamweaver etc. I believe they have a time limited demo. If your society page could accomendate a link to my site on its main page something saying maybe; Designed by Rockgrove IT, i would be happy to make your site for free.

have a look for website templates that you can download, you might find one that has the structure already and all you have to do is change the text etc... you can get them with simple .html that can be opened directly with frontpage, dreamweaver etc..

if you are looking for somthing REALLY easy to get started, you could get hosting with software called "sitestudio" installed. Its a dead handy interface for beginners and you can see the results quickly.

IIRC hosting 365 include sitestudio with their packages.
