PSU kicking the bucket?

    Hey,

for the last number of weeks, my computer has developed a nasty habit of powering off.
I thought it was a random occurance as it hadn't happened whenever I was using it. However, it did and it appears whenever I try access a usb device, play a game, anything that might draw an extra bit of power really.

Afai can tell, it'll work ok-ish for word processing at times but lately it's falling over more and more.

So I'm looking at the psu as the culprit. Tis a qtec 450W. I know I know..qtec suck but this is the first problem in 3 years with it.

I'd rather it not be anyother components really..lack of funds and lack of me being available over the summer to do anything.

So I'm looking at this Tagan 420W psu to future proof aswell [if I was to build I'd take the psu].

From what I've read, tagan are pretty solid psu's.

Question: whats the story with the 24/20pin? Is that the connection to the mobo?
my current one is an Asus p4mx533. Should there be problems with the psu connectors?
Will I need to buy a 24/20pin converter?

    thanks.

    Its defo a PSU problem
    qtec
    :D

Get the tagan its a great PSU, it comes with a 20pin connector and a 4 pin connector that connects to it to make it compatable with newer motherboards.....

What GFX card do you have?

    :p

Ya, I read after I bought it it was crap!

    Running a 256meg 9600XT.

420W is prolly overkill for what I'm running but like I said, tis more to future proof the psu for another while.

Maybe you should try borrowing a PSU from a friend to see if the problem really is with your PSU. It would be a bummer to spend money on the Tagan PSU and then find out that it wasn't needed at all.

Thanks for the update 7 months later but I've had the Tagan for months now and all is fine :)

How did you even find this thread though? That's what I always wonder about people who revive threads unintentionally...
