Aptitude Testing

    Hey all,

Going for a testing session with NATS in the UK for a student air traffic control position. Apparently there's "selection tests, personality tests and a motivation test". The motivation test is easy as pie, it's just a case of reading through a pack they send you beforehand and doing a test on ie, the idea being that if you're motivated enough you'll learn it and do well in the test. Simple.

It's these aptitude and personality tests that scare me. Aptitude wise, they've given a sample test (numeric and verbal reasoning) and my results have been above average.

Anyone have any suggestions about personality tests/spatial awareness tests or any useful links? I've Googled it but the amount of crap is phenomenal.

    Ta muchly.

I'd say you'd need to be WELL above average for these. Practice more would be my advice...

Well there's only three categories - below avg, avg and above avg, so I don't think I'm doing too bad :)

Surprised they don't give you a mark.
Sounds like amateur hour to me ;)

    Gud luck

Ah well, they're only practice tests. From what I hear they like to keep you on the edge. All throughout selection and training they try to give you the feeling that you're on the brink of failure, to keep you on your toes and all that.

The scary bits, really, are the spatial reasoning tests (visualising cubes). Sounds easy, but not when you have 3 minutes to do six complex ones. The mother of them all though, is a computer based test where numbers fly across the screen at a constant speed. You have to type in the numbers fast enough so they don't collide. Simple enough. BUT - at the bottom of the screen there's mathematical equations that you have to do at the same time.
