From Monday Lidl have a Targa-branded set-top DVD recorder with 160GB hard disk and a dual-layer DVD burner.
    http://www.lidl.ie/ie/home.nsf/pages/c.o.20060522.p.DVD

    # Available in silver or black
    # Easy recording from hard drive to DVD
    # Playback, Video: DVD, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, DVD+R DL, VCD, SVCD, JPEG, BMP, Foto-CD, DivX, MPEG4-VCD, Audio: CD, CD+R/RW, CD-R/RW, MP3, WMA, WAV-CD
    # Record up to 200 hours of video
    # Double layer DVD recorder
    # The advanced feature known as TimeShift allows you to pause live TV!
    # 3 year guarantee

€300. Not bad, but that said there are some cheaper ones with bigger hard disks on Komplett.

edit: eh, actually there appears to be only one cheaper on komplett with comparable specs or a bigger disk !

I wonder if it's really a dual-layer DVD recorder? It says "double layer"

The one on Komplett don't play DivX either

I'd say it is dual layer, that's probably dodgy translation from German again, wouldn't be the first time I've seen it in their ads.

I got one for my Dad. Very nice - lots of features.
I prefer my Kiss one though :D

Looking at the stats again, it woudl seem it records dual layer DVD+R discs only (DVD+R DL). Still, nice extra.

I picked one up on monday,it really is a great piece of kit.The picture quality on DVD is first rate even on NTSC discs.
Already I have 20+ hours on the hard drive, never again will I have to search through a load of tape's.
Plus it's easy to make it multi region.

Now if only Lidl would bring back those LCD TV's

To make it region free do the following.

    1) Power on the machine

    2) Press SETUP

    3) Hightlight EXIT

    4) Press 2 9 6 0

New menu pops up then chose your required region.

    Enjoy!
