D-Link router sometimes slow

I posted this in nets/comms but didn't get much response, and I've seen other router issues posted out here, so here goes. Can someone help?

    ----
My old Linksys gave up, so I replaced it with a D-Link DI-524. It works fine, except now and then it seems to be very slow and I'd be waiting minutes for a page to load. Often the symptoms have the page appearing immediately but the images taking forever to load. Sometimes the page itself takes forever. Sometimes it keeps saying can't connect to the page immediately after I attempt to load or refresh it (though this hasn't been happening of late).

I'm not sure, but it seems to most happen when my torrent client is open. When it's happening, I even have difficulty reaching the router's own interface at 192.168.1.1
It happens in both IE and Opera on both my PCs (one wirlessly connected, the other wirefully) and it never happened on the old Linksys. Oh, and the router is using the latest firmware (in fact, they haven't made any new revisions since the router was released).

I'm not sure what else I need to say. Many thanks to any who care to offer advice!

The processor in the new router might not be powerful enough to handle all the NAT requests and connection handling whatnots generated from using Torrents.

See if there's an option in your bit torrent client for lowering the number of connections made to peers. That might help.

I have Dlink and depending on your ISP, some of the settings maybe be borked.

What is your ISP? I find only certain pages have issues and if you test them in the Router admin page it gives a DNS issue, changing your settings may help.

Also restarting it every week helps a lot, it freezes if left on too long, i connect tru ethernet with laptop using wifi, the wifi strength varies greatly depending on how long router is on.

That'd be kind of unfortunate if it was just down to a slow router processor. I mean, yeah, I could lower the BT connections, but that's kind of counter-productive :( It all worked so swimmingly on my last router.

And um, my ISP is Verizon Avenue. I don't think it's the DNS thing, because it's not just a some pages thing. It's an all pages some of the time thing. And I've barely even had it a week. It was doing this from day one. So I don't know if the restarting once a week thing applies.

Thanks for the replies. Any other suggestions?

Is it wireless? if so, try changing the channel IDs in the wireless config. Might be a conflict with other devices.

It could be that the torrents are hogging the connection. You should limit the max speeds to about 75-80% of your maximum connection speed to your ISP. So if your max download speed is 200KBps then set the limit to 150KBps.

If my torrents are downloading at near max speed then my web surfing suffers greatly.
