I picked up 2 Seagate 320GB SATAII hard drives off dabs last week but when I connect them the computer won't boot, it gets to the point where it's detecting the ide drives and hangs.

    Anyone got any ideas?

Could be mobo or bios - you'll have to post more details on your PC config for anybody to be able to give help

    That happened to me.

Check to make sure your chipset supports SATA II. Then, if it doesn't, some HDs have a jumper controlling whether to operate as SATA or SATA 2. If your does, you will then need to change the jumper.

The newer seagates have awful problems with first generation SATA controllers. I haven't found an issue with WD yet, and Maxtor has/had problems with nforce4. Haven't used Hitachi for a while.

If you have a via chipset on your mobo, it probably is just a case of stick a jumper on the hard disk.
