    I just bought an inno3d 6800gt 256mb agp card from a nice
Chap on boards and am not to sure if it is
Knackered or incompatible with my motherboard
My motherboard is an asus a7n8x deluxe supporting up to agp3.0
The red light on the agp slot light up and the computer refuses to power up
My power supply is a Q-TEC 650w and have had no problems
Running it with a NVIDIA 5950ultra card.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

At first guess i'd say its the piece of crap Q-Tec you're using. Have you tried unplugging other devices, cd-roms/hd's etc. to see if that helps? Have you also connected the graphics card itself to the power supply?

Also, try a bios update, as that board was available before the gfx card was, so might be an issue.

    thanks for the reply
was hoping you were not going to mention the power supply, this card is not meant to be power hungry compared to the ultra, would have thought it would handle this.

have tried unplugging all drives and fans to no avail, red light just stays on
    when card is inserted,
    bios is up to date.

I think you're underestimating how crap Q-Tec PSU's are. Can you try the card in another machine? Would be the best way to find out.

just tried a chieftec 400w in my system, red light still shows up,
according to the spec this should have been enough,
my baord also should be compatible as it runs a 7800 on a mates computer

    any advice greatly appreciated

did you connect a power supply to the card as it needs its own power. i know it sounds like a silly question but just checking.

Its a long shot but try re-seating your processor (cpu), failing that reset your bios. It worked for me one time, funneh things these compters.

    Try reseating your graphics card.
try your old graphics card and see if it still works
u may have disturbed something while installing the graphics card so its worth reseating your main power connector and also the 4pin 12v one for the CPU.

Ensure its a power cable that only goes to the card, and not to any other drives.

Oh, and wot does yer mobo manual say about the red light. Maybe it has an answer.

are you using the floppy power cable, you may need to go into bios ,ENABLE AGP graphics/ in advanced settings, press del,f10 to get to bios, i had to get old pci card to get into bios, just to switch on the agp ,borrow pci card from some1.Try a spare power cable too.

Just tried the card on an alienware machine that is running a 7800 card to no avail,
Once again nothing happened, I think now I can safely say the card is a dud,
I’m going to ring the guy I got the card from and hope I haven’t been stung and look for my money back.

Thanks again for all those who replied
