Alice In Chains @ Metallica - security/overcapacity??

Ok, here goes, I hear AiC are going to be on some second stage at the Metallica gig. Apparently this 'tent' has a capacity of 2000 people.
Now I reckon most people there will want to see AiC, and i think its gonna be dangerous. For anyone that was at Foo Fighters 1st ever gig on the second stage at Reading in the 90s, you will know what that means. Crowd surges/overcapacity by a long way, and a lot of danger and risk.
Do the organisers know that this might pose problems, or has anyone been on to them??
i think they ought to know.

It will have to be moved to the main stage. Hopefully this will be done when they realise they have a problem on their hands. If not it will be a very dangerous situation. Anyone concerned should email Aiken, office@aikenpromotions.com

    Done. :)

there's certainly been some emails going to them about this subject, I've brought it up on a few messageboards already, and almost everyone agrees.....so I think they would be very stupid and neglegent not to move them, should anything happen there's enough people that have warned them of the possible problems.........

I e-mailed them yesterday bout this. 2000 is the max number that tent will hold so the chances are it'll be even less. If they ignore, and something bad happens, it'll only look bad on them and people will sue for negligence!

Fúck that lads. I want to see them in teh tent.

Surely there will be security that will monitor the amount of people entering/leaving the tent when it does get overcrowded, like at any festival. No harm there.

Reading was a big problem (Foo Fighters), had to put my sis on my shoulders, and even then we were crushed. It was real bad.

How many does the rds hold, lets say 30,000.
Now my guess would be that at the least half of 30,000 metallica fans will want to go see Alice In Chains,a legendary band on a reunion tour, and there could be a chance Phil Anselmo will be on vocals for them.

Thats at least 13,000 ppl not able to fit into the tent to see them,Do you know how to stop 13,000 ppl from seeing a band they paid to see without starting a riot or crush?

I seriously doubt there will be 15,000 interested punters, but that's my opinion.

I also presume Alice in Chains will be clashing with Korn?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,892 ✭✭✭Kersh

Think my bro said they wouldnt be.. cant remember who he said they would clash with..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,658 ✭✭✭✭Mushy

Does anyone else think bands wont clash with Metallica? I think Stone Sour will clash with Korn, then AIC with A7X. Leavin the whole crowd available for Metallica!

That would be much better. Here's hoping.

I hear Advenged Sevenfold are popular with the kids these days, moreso than Alice in Chains anyway.

There will definetely be more than 2,000 though.

Think thats why they on main stage! Main Stage for popular bands/headliner!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,892 ✭✭✭Kersh

Who are they, some sort of 'RAWWKK' band.. :D
Im sure they are popular, but more than 2000 want to see AIC, even if 'only' 1/4 of the concergoers want to see AIC thats still way too many... and trouble will occur.

the size restriction is a pain in the ass , but Alice in Chains live Dublin
thats the stuff of dreams right there !!!!!!. I'll defo be going now . Any word who's on vocals . Much an all as I respect Phil , I dont think his vocals are what AIC need .

Cant fully tell if your bein serious or not, most likely not, but they are an EMO*big shock smily face* band!
    Any word who's on vocals

Willliam Duvall on vocals for most of it, Jerry will probably be doin his usual bits and pieces in there

I think Cantrell's solo album was better than any AiC i have heard. Just my opinion. So i think it would be cool if he was singing.

Phil Anselmo could pull off being the vocalist no problem. And because people respect Anselmo they wont approach the gig with the idea that he is there to usurp Layne Staley's place.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,550 ✭✭✭NIBBS

this is very simple, there will be way more than 2,000 trying to see AIC - if they tought that they'd only get 1,000 punters interested in them there'd be a gig for them in a different venue which would hold that amount..........just my opinion.....
anyway they are still very popular, and a lot of kids will be driven to it by the fact that Duff will more than likely be on guitar and the possiblity of Anselmo on a couple of tracks will drag a lot more along, very hard to secure a tent like that........it's going to be mayhem, I know loads that are just going to see AIC and more and more people are saying that they are swinging to buying tickets just because they are playing......

Just remember to get to the tent early and drink loads of water beforehand.

What good is drinking water going to do if thousands of people force their way into an fully crowded marquee?

Im going purely to see AIC.... to me Metallica (much as I love them) are the 'bonus' band. But Id like to come home from this (relatively) unscathed. I know TONS of people who are going just to see Jerry & the boys....

im so depressed i missed this concert.
    pearl jam concert
    and incubus concert.

    my favorite bands :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,673 ✭✭✭✭senordingdong

Well obviously security aren't going to let more than 2000 people into the tent.

Overcrowding isn't what you should be worried about. What you should be worried about is how many AIC fan's are gonna miss them.

But are Alice In Chains Fans just gonna stand by while a band they have been waiting years to see is playing?

theres been alot of talk down here about A.I.C been moved to the main stage..come on theyll have to be,everyone wants to see them.I think it would be stupid not to move them (as well since there so many youngesters going in now a days.theyd be trampled!!)...

also as a matter of intrest does any one now for defo whos singing..iv heared jerry or maynard(tool)..then phile from pantera????i rely doubt

Well they're not going to start a riot either.
AIC fans will have to que up early to guarantee themselves a spot in the tent.

And William Duvall is singing, it's official.

This is gonna start the crushing though. From the outside, then people will have forced there way in, and it will be over-crowded causing more crushing. And i doubt the security will care too much cos they never seem to. Security wont realise there is a problem till its too late

Thats the point of me posting here, to try make people aware , someone is going to be hurt.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 119 ✭✭cormon

Doubhtful, there will be security outside the tent monitoring the numbers.

Personally I don't care what the security is. I am paying €70 to see AIC and I will see them. Satan himself couldn't stop me. Metallica etc are a bonus. So I am mailing that addy to let them know. Personally I'd prefer see them in the tent, but I think there will be too many fans there for that to work out. Sense must prevail.

According to Aikens the tent hold 4,500!

Still not enough methinks! There is gonna be so many more people than that for them

    OK. That's more than enough.

That's a capacity more than half the size of the Point, and Alice in Chains are nowhere as big as they used to be.

I would say right now they might attract more ppl than when they would have back in the day

    I'd agree that 4, 500 still isn't enough.

I totally agree, I think they'd get a lot of the kids to on word of mouth and with the fact that they've had so many guest musicans on the few dates they've played.........4,500 - fair enough if that's what they say, I'm not convinced, we'll see, I don't see them switching anything even if 10,000 people asked them to, it's not their way......
