GAA On Sky

Anyone know why some GAA games are blocked on Sky in Northern Ireland (NI Sky subscription). A friend up North got a Sky Package in order to watch GAA. Is this the same on an NTL Sub or do they show more games. Do Setanta have GAA rights outside The Republic? I am confused.

Yes, Setanta have GAA rights outside the Republic. RTÉ don't have the relevant rights to show GAA games outside ROI.

I thought last year rte bought all-lreland coverage i.e northern ireland rights as well. bbc lost out because of it. are they now blocking out the sunday game on sundays? that would suggest that setanta have done a fresh deal to give them northern ireland rights as well

God I hope they dont start blocking the GAA on ROI subs like they used to do. Living in England that is the main reason why I have an ROI sub.

I can't understand why games are being blocked in the North. Yes, I can understand Setanta having worlwide rights outside Ireland, but considering the level of interest and the number of counties competing from NI, it would seem logical for RTE to have the rights for the whole island. So it looks like the Sky NI viewer would have to take out another sub to Setanta. I believe that they are not blocked on NTL. Is this true? Do these blocks only apply to satellite?
